when lions befriended christians
in the ancient circus with no clowns, a man is ready to face the destiny upon him. thrown into the lions for the pleasure of the crowds. he had prepared for that final moment. hoping it would be fast and that they would target the carotid straight away. the huge gate opened in front of his eyes. the heat and stench of blood blurred his senses. he walked unhurriedly towards the center of the arena. he waited for a few moments, sheilding his eyes from the sun while looking around for the other gate. the one from where the lions would come.
a metallic sound pierced his ear and the gate opened. they were real. they were right there in front of him, ready to stick their sharpened teeth into his soft and weary flesh. seconds passed and none of them made the first move. they didn't attack. then, very slowly, the smallest lion [the one with the biggest eyes] approached him. and instead of biting off one of his arms or legs, sat beside him and watched. it almost looked like they were talking to each other without words. reassuring each other that all was ok. the lion then turned its head back and called the others. they all came to the center, making no sound.
regardless of the heat, they stayed there with the man [who was no longer scared]. the crowds disappeared and they stayed there for an eternity studying each others traces. there would be no bloodshed that day.
