death's grin when you parted
in that sad summer day
tears flooded my eyes
as sadness in my heart
no more running and shouting
no more funny inquisitive looks
and head turns
no more playful afternoons
faded with time
as age overwhelmed you
my younger and older friend
you were the only one of your kind
no one else can mend
that hollow space in my mind
only your memories subside
both good and bad
i look back with pride
although it makes me feel sad
